Thanks everyone, for another great arts festival!

By Joanne Crofford, 2010 Chair

A good time was had by all, despite the rain. We will declare Festival 2010 a success due to the spirit of the committee, volunteers, performers, and craftspeople who, with their usual determination, delivered another fine festival showcasing the strengths of our creative, entrepreneurial, and collaborative community.

Many businesses, individuals, artists, organizations, libraries, and schools, joined in the spirit of “Doors to Imagination” and those doors can still be seen on the festival web-site.  Thanks as well for another great festival poster.

New venues were added to the festival this year and the upcoming team  will assess how we move forward for the next year, particularly in consideration of challenges created by the weather.  We want to provide optimum opportunity for the best quality environment and artistic offerings we can provide in the circumstances.

The festival moves ever closer to its goal of being a multi-arts festival and again, new people have stepped up to the plate to ensure representation of key artistic areas. As the festival grows and changes, new people join the team and we welcome your energy and ideas with open arms.

Involvement of children, families, and youth reflecting the diversity of our community has also taken a big step forward this festival with the additions to the picnic, Funville, and weekday activities. The Neil Balkwill Centre, Art Gallery of Regina, Dunlop Art Gallery, Connaught Branch  Library, Delta Blues Association, and Saskatchewan Writer’s Guild were all active partners.

Artists were more visible on the street with “move-able” traveling art and art happenings.

It is the creativity flowing from the community through the festival committee, creative partners, and creative participants that keeps this festival fresh and exciting. Next year is the 20th Anniversary and we need lots of hands on deck to make our 20th  an outstanding year for the little festival that could.

Thank you to all the performers, volunteers, audience members and Sponsors.  We could not do this with all of you!

Did you notice your dumpster looks spruced up today? That's because some 30 volunteers from CACA and St. Mary's Anglican put on their best painting clothes and gave our faithful alley dumpsters fresh coats for spring. Don't worry, no art was harmed in the process, just a some tags and swear words. The neighbourhood looks great! Thanks, everyone. Cathedral residents can help throughout the year: if your dumpster lid needs repair or there is offensive graffiti, especially hate symbols, call the City for a clean-up.

Sample ImageOn May 1st and 2nd, hundreds of Reginans will take to the streets for their second annual Jane’s Walk, a series over 15 free neighbourhood walking tours that explore our collective history, architecture, planning and personalities. Last year’s walk saw more than 400 residents explore 12 walks across the city.

Celebrating the legacy of Jane Jacobs, the foremost urban thinker of our times, Jane’s Walk inspires citizens to get to know their city and each other by getting out and walking. Jacobs famously declared that walkable, diverse and mixed used neighborhoods are the hallmark of a healthy city and its people.
