GREEN HOME SHOW CONNECTS THE ECO MINDED TO ECO RESOURCES Monday, September 20, 2010Italian Club, 5 pm to 9 pm Regina residents wanting to make their homes more environmentally friendly won’t find a convenient “green” section in the yellow pages. But they can access a roomful of local resources at the third annual Regina Green Home Show. The event will help them improve the efficiency, sustainability, and health of their homes as around 30 exhibitors come together to show off some of the province’s most exciting and most promising eco solutions. “We’re trying to gather together as many of Regina’s eco-minded building professionals as we can to make it easier for home owners and renters to live more sustainably,” says Paul Dechene, board member of the Cathedral Area Community Association which is presenting the event. “A special feature this year is the addition of three seminars that will address some of the hottest topics in green building today, like LEED for homes,” says Dechene. “We want to make information accessible to all Regina residents so they can be empowered to make their own homes as efficient or green as they want.” The sessions are:6 p.m. – Breaking Down Walls: Understanding the building envelope –When air and moisture pass through the exterior walls of your home, the heating or air conditioning you paid for goes with it. This session will teach you how to improve your home’s efficiency while working with this natural process.7 p.m. – LEED Canada for Homes – LEED Canada for Homes is a certification system recognizing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This presentation will provide an overview of LEED Canada for Homes, how the system works and why it is important to you.8 p.m. – Homes Gone Bad: How to spot and combat toxic building materials – This seminar will help you recognize which building materials may have toxic effects and will provide solutions to mitigate the negative health impacts of those materials. The Green Home Show will once again include a silent auction with funds going to support local eco initiatives. There will also be an eco-café where you can enjoy delicious and healthy snacks from local vendors. The free event takes place at the Italian Club of Regina, located at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Connaught Street *west of the Lewvan), from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010.For more information, contact Paul Dechene at 757-9849.

Street hockey players played hard all weekend on 13th Avenue, with no need to yell Car! The fun was part of CBC's annual 'Play On!' tournament, normally held on Scarth Street, but welcomed in the neighbourhood this year due to construction downtown. We hope the players enjoyed our neighbourhood hospitality.
