Cathedral Village Forest Project

ABOUT THE FOREST PROJECT

The Cathedral Village Forest Project is led by a group of Cathedral Village residents. The outcome is to plant a 1.7 hectare community forest in Les Sherman Park. The City of Regina has given us approval-in-principle to undertake this project in an area of the park west of the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre along the banks of Wascana Creek.

Establishing an urban forest in this location will create new educational and recreational opportunities in our community as well as a habitat for local wildlife.

Trees clean our air, release oxygen slow the wind, increase shade and humidity, improve soil, provide shelter and food for wildlife and sequester carbon.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We will need community donations to make this project work. While our volunteers will be doing the heavy lifting and manual labour, we need to purchase a fence to protect the forest while it establishes and will be adapting the irrigation system in the park to support the growth of trees rather than grass.

While we are accepting monetary donations in any amount, please consider the following when making your donation:

The total project cost (including the fence) is $15 per tree if we are planting seedlings. If we planted a range of tree sizes this cost would increase accordingly.

With the help of our volunteers and local schools we hope to start planting in spring 2024.

Donations $25 and over will be issued an income tax receipt. You can donate by cheque or etransfer. The etransfer address is caca@sasktel.net. Please include your name, address, phone number & email address in the message portion of the etranfer if you donate $25 or more so we know where to send your income tax receipt. Cheques can be made to the Cathedral Area Community Association and dropped off at the office on the second floor of the Cathedral Neighbourhood Centre at 2900 13th Avenue or mailed to CACA, 2900 13th Ave, Regina, Sk. S4T 1N7.
